If you are new to RP (role playing), or are returning from a long hiatus, this is the place to be. Here, I will explain a few basics that can start any person in the right direction to avoid rage from the more seasoned RPers, as well as promote others to begin their RP story with a foundation to build on.
1) First off, assuming you have at the most an ounce of formal education or even homeschooling, try your best at forming complete sentences. Be aware that in the Simple section, the rules for grammar and syntax are more lenient, with the Intermediate sections being moderately strict and the Advanced sections even more so.
2) Try to refrain from using the pronoun "I" unless your character is engaging in conversation with another. You are portraying another person/creature, viewing their world through their eyes. They are not you, however in some cases, RPers like to implement an aspect of themselves within their characters.
3) Please try not to post back-to-back. This means posting in an RP without letting the other characters respond to what yours has said. Keeping that in mind, it should allow you to think out your posts more and maybe give you a change to describe the scenery or your character to invoke or reveal an emotion as you progress the story.
4) Controlling another person's character is a BIG no no and is very frowned upon. The only exceptions is when the owner of the character gives you direct permission to control it or if the character you are controlling is an NPC, or non-playable character. An NPC is any character within the story that is not directly controlled by a person.
5) If within your character sheet, or CS for short, you say that you're character is introverted, don't make him/her speak all of the time, give large speeches, or any of the sort unless there is a specific reason that contributes to character development. What's the point of adding that bit into the CS if you're going to ignore it in the actual story? You should see my point. This is especially crucial for RP combat. Creating abilities not extensively explained or pulling weapons out of thin air when it wasn't stated in the CS is considered God-Modding. If you don't know what that is, refer to the Arena section for the guide. God-Modding causes unnecessary disputes that can be avoided if you adhere to the rules. One offense is a warning, but after that...
6) Most importantly, HAVE FUN. This is your creativity personifying itself through your storytelling; explore your mind and expand your imagination. That's all we wish to do here.
